SPRINGFIELD, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Spok, Inc. today announced that St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ont.,
has selected Spok® Critical Test Results Management to
streamline the test results process for physicians. The system will
enable St. Michael’s clinicians to determine treatment plans faster by
sending patients’ Radiology
reports directly to physicians who ordered the tests – wherever they
are. The hospital has relied on Spok for its operator
console and web
directory for several years and wanted to build upon that existing
communication platform for additional efficiency.
St. Michael’s decided to replace its previous critical test results
management tool when it upgraded its picture archiving and communication
system (PACS) earlier this year. “Spok Critical Test Results Management
is a feature-rich solution that allows us to integrate with our existing
Spok solutions for improved communication throughout the hospital,” said
Frank Garcea, deputy CIO. “In addition to incorporating lab and
radiology alerts, Spok’s solution interfaces with the EMR to receive
critical results. It has truly helped us customize our workflows and
save clinicians time every day. The Emergency Department loves receiving
notification of results in a timely manner.”
“Radiologists at St. Michael’s Hospital are very happy with it,” said
Dr. Dowdell, radiologist in chief. “Spok gives us an efficient,
closed-loop system to monitor the communication and acknowledgement of
the critical imaging results we send to the Emergency Department.”
In addition to the workflow improvements, Garcea notes that the audit
trail is an important benefit to the solution. “All communications are
logged into a database, so there are no questions about what was
communicated, when, and to whom—it’s all tracked.”
